The purpose of this article is to explore the relationship between the concepts of freedom and determinism in the European tradition by conceptualizing through historical and philosophical analysis their connection to different patterns of thinking, typical for the ancient period. In this way, gravitating on theses based on the so-called "Principle of bivalence", the text also represents the views of Aristotle, Cicero, Epicurus and the philosophy of the Stoics.
